Biotechnology

The Postgraduate Program in Biotechnology at the University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP) is aimed at training highly qualified Master’s and Doctoral students, professionals, teachers and researchers, enabling them to plan and develop scientific studies using interdisciplinary approaches. The program is centered on the two concentration areas: Biotechnology Applied to Human and Animal Health and Biotechnology Applied to Agribusiness and the Environment. The program was also designed to endow students with entrepreneurial skills, management tools, and the ability to transform knowledge into biotechnological products.

  • The Program is classified as score 5 by CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel – Ministry of Education in Brazil) and is part of the excellence group in the field of Biotechnology
  • The teaching staff is composed of professors with doctoral degrees from the main universities in Brazil and abroad, who have proven experience in their areas of expertise

Curricular Structure

The program adopts the academic credit system, with 1 credit corresponding to 15 hours of activities. At the discretion of the Postgraduate Board in Biotechnology, credits obtained in other postgraduate programs of UNAERP and other higher education institutions may be accepted following equivalence criteria. The number of credits transferred from other programs must not exceed 10 credits of the total number required for the Master’s degree or 20 credits of the total number required for the Doctoral degree.

Credits for completion of the Master's and Doctoral degrees

The Master’s program requires the completion of 120 credits divided as follows:

  • 24 credits from courses
  • 6 credits from didactic-pedagogical activities
  • 90 dissertation credits

 

The Doctoral program requires the completion of 190 credits divided as follows:

  • 32 credits from courses
  • 8 credits from didactic-pedagogical activities
  • 150 thesis credits
