The University of Ribeirão Preto (UNAERP) was the first higher education institution in the Ribeirão Preto region. Founded on June 1, 1924, as the Society School of Pharmacy and Dentistry, it emerged from a group of visionary health professionals, intellectuals, and educators aiming to foster social, educational, and cultural development. By 1928, it became AERP (Learning Association of Ribeirão Preto), which later established UNAERP’s campuses in Ribeirão Preto and Guarujá.
In 1959, Professor Electro Bonini took over the institution’s management, leading significant expansion. New courses, including Law, Social Services, Industrial Chemistry, and Business Administration, were introduced. The Ribeirão Preto campus was inaugurated in 1971, marking a transition from isolated faculties to a university structure. Recognized as a university in 1985, UNAERP continued expanding, launching Medical School, Nursing, Computer Engineering, and other programs.
In 1999, UNAERP opened a second campus in Guarujá, becoming the first university in the region, with modern infrastructure to support teaching, research, and community service. Today, UNAERP offers a wide range of undergraduate and graduate programs, with recognized academic excellence, research funding, and community outreach projects. The university remains committed to education, innovation, and societal impact.
